Serving within the Church

Worship Volunteers

Acolytes - Walks in with lit candlelighter and lights the candles on the altar. At the end of the service, the acolyte comes and extinguishes the candles on the altar, lights the candlelighter, and walks to the back of the Sanctuary.

Altar Team - Prepares Communion elements, arranges and refreshes the altar area, and sets the decorations and atmosphere for worship.

Children’s Church Leaders - Walk with the children to the Education Building after the Children’s Sermon. Teach a pre-prepared lesson with Bible story and activities. Pass a background check and follow our Child Safety Policies.

Counters - Work in teams of 2 to count offerings and donations given during the worship service. This happens right after worship.

Greeters - Welcome people as they arrive for worship, help them find seats, distribute bulletins, and create a friendly atmosphere.

Lay Readers - Lead Call to Worship and read Scripture during the worship service.

Technology Team - Runs the powerpoint slides and sound board during the worship service.

Ushers - Collect the offering during the service and help with greeting and seating on larger attendance Sundays.

Video/Facebook Team - Operates the video camera used to send our service to Facebook live and moderates the Facebook live session from an ipad.

Committee Directed Ministries

Christian Education - These leaders do the work of planning and teaching classes for children and adults to learn and grow in their faith.

Church Council - This group is made up of leaders of our committees and ministries. They cast the vision and priorities of the church.

Events Team - This group plans and implements events inside and outside the church walls. They engage in the work of fellowship and outreach.

Finance Committee - This group sets the budget for the church and promotes stewardship of tithes and gifts.

Food Pantry Committee - This group works together with community organizations in the work of funding, purchasing, organizing, and distributing food to those who have need.

Nominations and Leadership Development Committee - This group nominates leaders, asks them to serve, and assists in training and developing new leaders.

Nurture Committee - This group seeks to care for the members of our church community by providing visits, meals, support, prayers, cards, and holiday gifts. They provide intentional care to our homebound, sick, hospitalized, and grieving members.

Staff-Parish Relations Committee - This group is the human resources of the church. They hire and support staff, set staffing budget, and help to promote good communication between the congregation and the staff.

Trustee Committee - This group is responsible for the care and stewardship all buildings and grounds owned by the church.

Volunteer Coordinators - Provide scheduling organization and communication to worship and food pantry volunteers.

Worship Committee - This group plans and provides support for worship services.

Music Ministry Volunteers

Handbell Choir - Ring with a group of musicians who practice throughout the year and perform music in worship about 4 times per year.

Sanctuary Choir- Join in making a joyful noise with our choir that sings an anthem at weekly services and special services. Practice is immediately following worship.

Special Music - instrumentalists and vocalists who enjoy performing solo or in small groups are welcome to share their gifts through special musical selections.

Administrative Support

Office Support - Assist with larger mailings or projects that require office work.

Local Partnerships and Outreach

Elmont Community Food Pantry - We partner with First Baptist of Elmont for this important outreach program. Food distribution is every Saturday from 10:00 AM - 12:00 PM. For more information, visit our Food Pantry page.
